ISO 26262 and MBT

Actually, we have planned to provide a blog post considering the role of MBT in the ISO 26262 standard (standard for functional safety in the automotive domain). In the first baselines (2008) of ISO 26262  MBT  was highly recommended (++) for functional software unit testing (Table 16 in Part 6). Unfortunately,  this recommendation was removed from the ISO 26262 and is not included in the final version “Final Draft International Standard” (FDIS) published in April 2011 (LINK).

I am wondering why this recommendation was removed. Was this recommendation too harsh for OEMs and suppliers? However, MBT seems to get increasingly important in the automotive industry.

Stay tuned and discuss with us. What is your opinion?

Probably it was too harsh for the OEMs. There are many things which are included in IEC 61508 and not included in ISO 26262.

I’m planning to apply model based automation testing to mobile applications. The thing is that it’s not easy to find proper tool generating test cases from model with small modifications. It seems that I have to make tailored tool for my work.
